How to find a job after a tech layoff
After a tech layoff, spend week one on your resume, LinkedIn and a list of 50 target companies, then apply to 10 to 20 well-matched jobs every working day with a resume tailored to each one, and message a hiring manager or engineer at each company.
Your first 30 days
- Days 1 to 3: sort out severance, health cover and your finances
- Days 3 to 7: rewrite your resume and LinkedIn for the roles you want
- Week 2: build a list of 50 target companies that are hiring
- Weeks 2 to 4: apply daily with tailored resumes and send short messages to people at each company
- Every week: practise interviews and review what got replies
What gets replies
- A resume that uses the job's own words for skills you really have
- Applying in the first few days after a job is posted
- A short message to a real person at the company
If you don't have the time
A reverse recruiter can do the daily applying while you focus on interviews. That's what we do.
